The qualifications provide a route for the development of an individual’s skills in languages to support them in achieving Entry Level of the National Qualifications Framework.

The qualification structure has been designed to recognise that language capability is not age related, but contexts of delivery have to be structured in a way that motivates the candidate.

The qualifications are designed to give candidates opportunities to:

• develop an understanding of basic spoken forms of business Chinese relating to a range of everyday business matters
• develop a cultural understanding of Chinese
• develop the ability to use a basic range of everyday expressions relating to personal details and business needs in Chinese
• develop positive attitudes towards language learning.
