The iTQ was officially integrated onto the National Curriculum Framework in 2006 as a ‘national vocational qualification’ after a 12-month pilot. iTQ was developed by e-skills UK and a number of stakeholders including QCA, Awarding Bodies and employers.

The qualification is presently quite unique; it accredits the use of ICT skills in other curriculum areas to yield a total of up to 4 vocationally related units, which lead to qualifications at Level One and Level Two of the NQF. Students will be able to demonstrate specific ICT skills that can be used in employment.

The qualification acts as a framework to gather together the use of ICT by the student and reward them for using vocational ICT skills with a qualification. It also acts as a framework whereby the school is able to exploit its investment in ICT and gain additional qualifications for its students via this scheme.
